A week ago, my parents went down to Adelaide for a couple of days (god knows why...) and dad came home with a triumphant smile and a truffle. ONE small truffle worth a whopping $34!
Basically, it sat in the fridge for a week because we didn't know what to do with it so today, dad finally decided to get rid it i.e. eat it. So I decided to find a recipe and most recipes just called for pasta tossed with olive oil and garnished with Parmesan and truffle so that's what I decided to cook for dinner tonight.
The verdict: truffles are sooooo overrated. This was the first time I had tasted truffle and I don't understand what is so special with the fungus. I mean, it tasted like soil on its own!!! Is it meant to taste like that? My brother described the truffle as bringing a more pungent smell to the pasta and dad described the pasta dish as "there's just a whiff of smelly old cheese".
It was also the first time I had tasted Parmesan and to tell you the truth, I was not impressed. Parmesan is so STRONG!!! And yeah, it has a pungent taste.
don't microwave parmesan. it will stink like...omg
